the first step
Identity, meaning, purpose, and… how did I get here?
It’s probably safe to say that most of us do our best to live well. However, it’s sometimes in the very pursuit of that endeavour that we lose ourselves. One day, we realize that we haven’t been living well for a very long time. How do we get back to ourselves? How do we re-discover our intuition? How do we reclaim what’s ours for the taking?
Seeking the answer to these questions can stir up all sorts of emotional reactions - how do I do this? What if I fail? What if I’ve forgotten everything? What if I don’t like what I have to come back to? It’s natural to be hesitant, scared, or uncertain about what our counselling journey will bring us. Many of us have spent most of our lives avoiding the very things that we aim to explore in counselling. However, something has brought you here. Something has alighted within you and pushed you to reach out. It’s that part that I’m curious about. It’s telling us something valuable - it’s telling us that a part of you is yearning for a change.
At the end of the day, counselling moves no faster and no slower than you allow it. We move at your pace. Always. Further, this space is sacred. It’s about honouring your voice, your knowing, your “yes”, and your “no”.
So, if you’re here, welcome! And if this feels daunting, I get it. Maybe today we can do ourselves the service of honouring the part that’s brought us here, the part that’s in search of a life well lived, and move forward into the unknown, knowing that I’ll be right by your side as we traverse new chapters together.
